Terms of Use
These terms ("Terms") govern your use of thecareletter.com, The Care Letter email newsletter, and any other products or services we publish under the brand "The Care Letter" (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Global Pioneers LLC, doing business as The Care Letter ("we," "us," "our").
By using the Service, subscribing to the newsletter, or submitting a form, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
Editorial nature of the Service — the most important section
The Care Letter publishes general educational information. It is not legal advice, medical advice, financial advice, tax advice, insurance advice, or any other form of professional advice or recommendation.
We write about eldercare topics — Medicaid eligibility, Medicare programs, advance directives, hospice eligibility, long-term care insurance, caregiver finances, and similar areas. These topics involve laws, regulations, and clinical judgments that vary by state, change over time, and depend on facts specific to each person's situation.
Nothing on the Service:
- Establishes an attorney-client, doctor-patient, financial-advisor-client, accountant-client, or fiduciary relationship between you and us, our editors, our writers, our sponsors, or our directory providers
- Should be acted on without consulting a qualified professional licensed in your state
- Constitutes a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any insurance product, financial product, healthcare service, or service provider
- Is a substitute for personalized professional judgment
We exit every guide and issue to the appropriate type of professional (elder law attorney, CPA, geriatric care manager, etc.). We do this because the stakes in eldercare decisions are too high to rely on a general-audience publication.
Acceptable use
You may read, share, subscribe to, and quote The Care Letter for personal, non-commercial purposes. When quoting or referencing our content elsewhere, please attribute by name ("The Care Letter") with a link back to the source.
You may not:
- Republish or redistribute substantial portions of our content without written permission
- Use our content to train a commercial AI model, build a competing publication, or create a derivative work that substitutes for ours (small-volume training as part of a broader corpus is fine — see our AI policy below)
- Misrepresent our content or our positions
- Submit form responses that are spam, harassing, or fraudulent
- Attempt to subvert the Service's technical operation, scrape it at high volume, or probe for vulnerabilities
We reserve the right to remove subscribers, block IPs, or refuse service to anyone violating these terms.
Intellectual property
All editorial content on The Care Letter — the guides, newsletter issues, original frameworks, headlines, and accompanying materials — is owned by Global Pioneers LLC and protected under U.S. copyright law and applicable international treaties. Third-party content we link to or quote remains the property of its respective owner.
If you'd like to license our work for commercial use, syndicate a guide, or quote at unusual length, email jordan@thecareletter.com.
AI policy
We're not categorically opposed to AI training on our content — we'd rather AI systems learn from carefully-researched eldercare content than from misinformation. But we ask:
- AI training operators who use our content in a corpus must respect robots.txt directives we set
- Operators of commercial chatbots, AI-search products, or AI publishing platforms must cite The Care Letter when surfacing our content to end users
- Wholesale republication, scraping for derivative-publication purposes, or training a directly-competing product is not permitted under fair use
Newsletter subscription
When you subscribe via thecareletter.com or any of our forms, you agree to receive newsletter issues (typically two per week), occasional Reader Q replies if you've written in, and rare announcements about new features or scope changes. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link at the bottom of any newsletter email — no questions asked.
Subscribing does not create any commercial relationship beyond your right to receive the newsletter you signed up for. We don't share your address. See our Privacy Policy for what we do with the data.
Directory listings
If you're a provider listed in our directory, separate terms govern your relationship with us — namely, the directory listing application's terms (vetting requirements, flat-fee annual pricing, our right to remove listings for ethical or quality reasons). The directory operates under an editorial firewall: a paid listing does not influence editorial coverage in the newsletter or guides.
Sponsorship
Sponsorship of newsletter issues, sponsored guides, and other paid placements are governed by separate written agreements with each sponsor. Sponsored content is always labeled. Editorial control of framing remains with The Care Letter.
No warranty
The Service is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no representations about the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose of any content on the Service. Information on the Service may be incomplete, outdated, or wrong — we work to publish accurately and we correct errors when we find them (see our Corrections Policy), but you should not rely on the Service as a sole source for any consequential decision.
We do not warrant that the Service will be available at all times, free of bugs, secure against all threats, or compatible with all browsers or assistive technologies.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Global Pioneers LLC, its officers, employees, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service — including but not limited to lost profits, lost savings, lost data, or harms resulting from any decision you made based on the Service.
Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for consequential damages. If you're in such a jurisdiction, these limits apply to the maximum extent permitted there.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Global Pioneers LLC from any claims, losses, or damages arising out of (a) your use of the Service in violation of these Terms, (b) your violation of any third-party right (including intellectual property or privacy rights), or (c) any content you submit through forms or other channels.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, and you consent to that venue.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted with an updated "Last updated" date and announced via the newsletter. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
